Luxury houses blossomed in Des Moines area last year. The bulk of these properties are in West Des Moines (32 houses) and Main Des Moines (22 houses). In addition, expensive homes are also showing up in Grimes, which is an unexpected location considering that it is a rural area.

The rise in million dollar homes is due to new executives moving into the Des Moines market. Another snowball effect is that the old houses in the area are being remodeled and new gadgets are being installed. But despite of these new developments, the Des Moines market is still considered as a relatively inexpensive place to live.
